About Membership Member Insignias Founding Members

Do you have a passion for preserving and protecting the heritage and historical relics originally established by the Bakers of Isle of Wight, VA and Buckland, NC?  Do you want to fortify these small communities that inhabit these areas of the nation today?  Do you want to influence the projects that Bakers of Buckland Society, Inc. undertake?  Do you want to help raise funds to preserve the heritage of the original Bakers of Buckland communities and the heritage of their descendants? If so, you are an ideal candidate for membership.

Q. How do I become a member today?

A. Joining is easy! Just fill out an application and send it to us.

Once we receive your application, we will let the membership body know about your application, and a vote may be taken.  Read this Question to learn more about voting.

It will take about two weeks. and then we will send you a letter.  If you have not already paid your dues, then we will also send you an invoice through PayPal.

Instructions: You can do one of two things:

(1) Print out the form, fill it out and mail it to the address listed on page 2 of the form.


(2) Fill out the form directly on your computer, save the file and then email it to the email address listed on page 2 of the form.

Q. What are the current Membership dues?

A. Become a Member or Become a Founding Member:

Member Rates:

  • Student Rate (Adult): $ 10 (Spouse $5, Child Free)
  • Basic: $ 25 (Spouse $10, Child Free)
  • Benefactor: $50 minimum (Spouse $15, Child Free)
  • Henry Baker and Mary Blake Club: $250 minimum (Spouse $50, Child Free)

Patron Founding Member Rates:

  • Patron Founder: $ 500 minimum (Spouse $100, Child Free)
  • Silver Founder: $750 minimum (Spouse $200, Child Free)
  • Gold Founder: $1000 minimum (Spouse $300, Child Free)

Q. What is a “Patron Founding Member?”

A. The title of “Patron Founding Member” is bestowed upon a person who gives the Society a sizable monetary gift.  Once a person earns the status of “Patron Founding Member,” he or she will always be known as a Patron Founder in the records of our Society.  If you become a Patron Founder, your insignia will always bear the purple sash.  And for each Silver or Gold Founding gift you donate, you will receive a star on your sash.

Q. Who can join this society?

A. Anyone can apply for membership.  Individuals under 18 must have parent or guardian approval to join.

Q. Why do members vote to accept new members?

A. Membership is closed, which means that after you send us your application our membership body is given the option to vote to accept you into the society.  A voting process such as this is common in many organizations as a safeguard against bestowing membership to an individual who is combative or actively against the core values of the organization. The voting process is never used to discriminate for reasons of religious, political, racial, sexual orientation, or any other cultural distinction that have nothing to do with the purpose of this organization.

Q. Do dues and fees ever change?

A. Membership fees and dues are determined by a vote at the Annual Meeting. They rarely change.

Q. What are “insignias”?

A. Each member of the Society is given an insignia to designate his or her membership. Insignias are displayed on name tags, printed material, and so on. In the future we may also offer products that can display insignias, such as mugs, t-shirts, calendars, etc. You can see the insignias here.
